02 · We get the brief

"Dealers should not be left behind the customer."

The public campaign builds curiosity for months before retail introduction. The network, the CIC and six Sub-Saharan markets must build knowledge in lockstep with the reveal, starting before the full product story can even be told. Five principles shape everything:

01

Parallel to the campaign

Content is gated by the same reveal milestones as the public journey. The network always knows more than the customer, never less, never in breach of embargo.

02

Built for partial info

Designed from day one to teach from embargo-safe fragments: teasers, silhouettes, category positioning. Every approved fact enriches the world.

03

A season, not a course

Nobody re-opens a course. People come back for a competition. From first login it is a championship with standings, momentum and pride at stake.

04

Teams win, not heroes

Scoring rewards whole-dealer participation. One keen Executive cannot carry a dealership; the mechanics make the Principal want everyone on the grid.

05

Readiness you measure

Every drop, mission and challenge feeds a live Readiness Index. In January the Academy will not hope the network is ready. It will know.

03 · The concept, staged as a season

One season. One grid.

Cover letter

Dear Tanja

The Tengo launch is exactly the kind of brief we exist for. It is not a training project with a competition bolted on. It is a brand moment that happens to run on learning. Your Dealer Network needs to feel the same energy the public campaign will create, months before a customer ever asks the first question. This proposal sets out how we will stage that: a progressive, competitive, measurable digital season that ends with Tengo Retail Champions and a Dealer Network that is genuinely ready.

Thank you for the invitation to respond to the Volkswagen Tengo Digital Dealer Readiness & Gamification Journey RFQ. We confirm receipt of the RFQ pack, and we confirm that:

We would welcome the opportunity to present this concept to the Dealer Training Academy at the oral presentation sessions on 30 or 31 July 2026, where we will demonstrate a working Tengo World prototype live.

Kind regards

Darren Sandras

1Who we are

One-eyed Jack is an award-winning South African brand experience agency. PR, influencer relations, events, design and digital platforms, under one roof. Offices in Cape Town and Johannesburg, with networks spanning Africa, Mauritius and London.

Safe work is forgettable. We create the stuff people talk about, share and remember.

For over a decade we have staged launches, campaigns and experiences for some of the most recognised brands in the country, with work recognised at the Loeries and SA Prism Awards. What makes us different for this brief is what sits behind the campaigns: a full in-house digital platform practice that designs, builds and operates the engagement platforms our campaigns run on. Strategy, creative, content, engineering and analytics in one team. No hand-offs, no gaps.

Selected platform credentials

Automotive launch

BYD Atto 2 Launch Media Hub

A digital launch hub built for the BYD Atto 2 introduction to the South African market: embargoed asset distribution, media journey management and launch-event engagement, delivered against hard OEM launch dates.

Gamified competition at national scale

Content Creator Awards 2026

The digital backbone of a national awards programme: thousands of entries, structured eligibility vetting, multi-panel judging hubs, live multi-room scoring, leaderboards and real-time results dashboards.

Brand content platform

Exclusive Books Media Hub

A secure, access-controlled press and content hub serving campaign assets, press kits and embargoed material to media, with engagement tracking and analytics.

Engagement engine

OEJ Campaign Platform

Our own in-house CRM and campaign engine: audience segmentation, multi-channel campaigns, delivery and engagement analytics, POPIA-compliant consent management. It runs our clients' campaigns daily.

Together these cover exactly what this brief demands: gamified competition mechanics at national scale, structured content journeys with completion tracking and embargo control, automotive launch delivery against hard OEM dates, and SCORM-ready learning architecture on our own platform stack. This journey is assembled from parts we have already built and run in production.

Our delivery team

We field a single accountable, purpose-built squad for the Tengo programme, led by One-eyed Jack as prime across strategy, creative, brand experience, the platform build and the gamified championship. One team covers both halves of this brief: launch-grade brand-experience production and the in-house engineering, learning design and LMS-integration depth to stand up a working platform. Third-party services, if any are engaged, are disclosed per RFP Part 6.

See it running, not just described

Anyone can describe a platform in a document. We will show you ours working. This submission includes a live demonstration of gamified platforms we have built and operate right now:

At the oral presentation we will demonstrate a working Tengo World prototype live: the weekly Drop, the points-and-leaderboard championship, Build Your Tengo, and the dealer and Academy dashboards. A working build you can click, not a slide you have to imagine.

One-eyed JackSection 1 · Who we are

2We get the brief

The Tengo is Volkswagen's play for a new generation: first-time new-vehicle buyers, hatchback upgraders and customers stepping into the VW SUV family. The public campaign will build curiosity for months before retail introduction. Your own words frame the challenge perfectly:

"Dealers should not be left behind the customer."

That single line shapes everything in this proposal. The Dealer Network, the Customer Interaction Centre and six Sub-Saharan African markets must build knowledge and confidence in lockstep with the public reveal, starting before the full product story may even be told. Our strategic approach rests on five principles:

Readiness runs parallel to the campaignContent releases are gated by the same reveal milestones as the public journey. The network always knows more than the customer, never less, and never breaches embargo.
Built for partial informationThe platform is designed from day one to teach from embargo-safe fragments: teasers, silhouettes, category positioning. Every approved fact that lands enriches the world. Waiting for complete information is not a plan; we design for the drip.
A season, not a courseNobody re-opens a course. People come back for a competition. From the first login this is a championship with standings, momentum and pride at stake, exactly as the Tengo Retail Championship concept intends.
Teams win, not heroesThe scoring architecture rewards whole-dealer participation. One enthusiastic Sales Executive cannot carry a dealership; the mechanics make the Dealer Principal want everyone on the grid.
Readiness you can measureEvery drop, mission and challenge feeds a live Readiness Index at individual, dealer and market level. In January the Academy will not hope the network is ready. It will know, per person, per dealer, per market.

The sections that follow translate these principles into the learner journey, platform, gamification mechanics, content engine, reporting and delivery plan requested in the RFP, covering the full journey from planning and development through The Drop, Unbox & Build, Learn Earn & Compete, the January 2027 Final Online Challenge, and the transition into the February 2027 Face-to-Face Dealer Readiness Experience and Dynamic Drive.

One-eyed JackSection 2 · We get the brief

3The concept: Tengo World

One season. One grid. One champion network. Tengo World is a championship season staged as a mobile-first digital world, where every participant progressively Learns, Earns, Unlocks, Competes, Proves and becomes a Champion. The learning platform is skinned as the Tengo's own cockpit: a participant's live status reads off an instrument cluster, and the app surface is the vehicle's centre screen.

The metaphor is automotive because the audience is automotive. The season has a pre-season, race weeks, a garage, standings and a grand final. It is instantly legible to a dealer floor, and it gives the Academy a narrative engine for eight months of communication.

The Digital Passport

Every participant carries one identity through the whole journey: a Digital Passport that records completion stamps, points, badges, collected Tengo parts, streaks and Championship standing. It is the learner's trophy cabinet, the Academy's completion record (SCORM-reportable), and the bridge into Phase 2, where it becomes each delegate's readiness credential.

5The platform & SumTotal integration

A mobile-first, installable web application: one URL that works beautifully on any phone, tablet or desktop, with no app-store friction across seven countries.

SumTotal (iLearn) integration workplan

VWGA already operates an established SumTotal (iLearn) learning environment for the dealer network. We integrate with it, we do not replace it. Tengo World is the engagement and championship layer that sits on top of your existing LMS and feeds it clean completion and competency data. Our recommended workplan:

StepWhat we do
1. Integration discoveryA joint session with the SumTotal/iLearn administrators in week one to confirm the instance, the integration standard (SCORM 1.2/2004 or xAPI via a Learning Record Store), the SSO method, and the completion and competency data model VWGA wants written back.
2. Single sign-onLearners enter Tengo World through VWGA's existing identity, so there is no separate account to manage and enrolment stays governed by VWGA.
3. Completion & score write-backAs learners progress, Tengo World writes completion, score and competency records to SumTotal via xAPI/API, keeping iLearn the system of record for each learner's history.
4. SCORM packagingWhere the Academy prefers content to live inside SumTotal, journey modules are delivered as SCORM 1.2/2004 packages hosted in the LMS.
5. Reconciliation & UATReconciliation between Tengo World dashboards and SumTotal records, with a dedicated integration UAT sign-off before The Drop goes live.

SumTotal integration engineering is delivered by our platform team. If deeper integration is not required for Phase 1, a scheduled completion-data export in the Academy's preferred format is the lightest-touch fallback and never blocks the learning journey. The exact depth is confirmed at the integration discovery session.

Asset intake specification

Within the first two planning weeks we will issue VWGA a concise asset intake specification: the formats, resolutions, durations and naming we need for campaign assets, CGI, photography and video, so approved material from the VWGA content production process (including Kariega plant assets) drops straight into the journey without rework.

Hosting, licensing & support

Hosting, infrastructure and platform licensing are quoted as transparent monthly line items in Section 20 for the programme duration. Technical support and SLAs are set out in Section 17. No third-party per-seat learning licences are required.

One-eyed JackSection 5 · The platform

6Gamification & the Tengo Retail Championship

The Championship is the competitive thread that holds the whole journey together, designed to reward continuous participation across the season, never a single lucky quiz.

How it works

ElementMechanic
Who competesSales and Service teams across the VW Dealer Network including the six SSA markets, with CIC agents fully in the journey and competing in their own division; the CIC competitive structure will be aligned with the Academy.
EntryAutomatic. Participation begins the moment a learner enters the Tengo digital journey. No separate registration, no opt-in friction.
EarningPoints for completing content drops, missions, quizzes, customer scenarios and challenges. Two currencies: Readiness Points for participation and consistency, Mastery Points for accuracy and application.
ProgressDigital Passport: points, stamps, badges, collected vehicle parts, streaks, progress status and current standing, always one tap away.
Competition structureThree simultaneous views: individual ranking, the Dealer Constructors' Championship (team), and the regional/market view.
TeamworkThe Constructors' score multiplies collective points by squad participation rate. A dealer where everyone plays beats a dealer with one star. Dealer Principals get a weekly digest showing exactly who has not yet scored.
VisibilityLive leaderboards and scorecards, filterable by role, dealer, region and market, refreshed in real time and celebrated every Friday.
Final stageThe Final Online Dealer Readiness Challenge, January 2027: a timed, weighted, all-curriculum round whose score combines with full-season standings to crown the Champions. Season points carry the majority weight, so five months of participation can never be undone by one bad quiz.
RecognitionTengo Retail Champions recognised by portfolio and category (e.g. New Car Sales, MasterCars, Service, CIC, SSA Market Champion), with digital honours on the platform. Final rewards to be confirmed with the Academy.
TransitionStandings, badges and Passports carry into the February Face-to-Face Dealer Readiness Experience and Dynamic Drive, so Championship momentum lands in the room.

Badges, unlocks & digital rewards

A designed achievement system: curriculum badges (e.g. Spec Master, Service Plan Pro), behaviour badges (streaks, comebacks, first-responders), team honours, and collectible Tengo parts. Digital rewards are issued to the Passport; if VWGA elects physical prizes, the platform handles winner determination and audit trails while fulfilment remains with VWGA (Section 19).

Keeping it fair

Weekly point caps keep late joiners competitive, role-normalised scoring keeps Service and Sales comparable, market divisions keep SSA competition meaningful, and anomaly detection flags improbable patterns. A steady mid-performer at a dealer where the whole squad plays will outscore a lone star at a dormant dealer. That is the design, not an accident. The Academy's forthcoming recommendation of the Tengo Retail Competition framework will be incorporated in the planning workshops.

One-eyed JackSection 6 · Gamification & the Championship

7Build Your Tengo

The Garage is where knowledge becomes something you can see. Every participant builds their own Tengo, part by part, by mastering the vehicle. It runs as a configurator: a dark studio, the vehicle rotating, feature options that unlock and configure the build live as the learner progresses.

8Feature-to-Benefit Challenges

Features tell. Benefits sell. This dedicated challenge programme trains the conversation that closes.

9Industrial theatre integration

We design the digital journey so live dramatised moments and the platform amplify each other.

We have assumed industrial theatre performance (live actors, staging) is a Phase 2 element; our scope covers its digital integration and dramatised video content. We will align the split with the Academy at the briefing session.

21Beyond launch: Phase 2 & Sustain

The season is built to end in a room. Standings seed the Face-to-Face Dealer Readiness Experience, Champions are celebrated on a real podium, and the Passport becomes each delegate's credential into the Dynamic Drive. Storylines, characters and scenario content are written to reappear live, so Phase 2 feels like the finale of a world the network already lives in. We would welcome the conversation about staging it.

Nothing we build dies at wrap. For the post-launch Sustain stage, every unit is modular and SCORM-packagable, ready to slot into VWGA's standard product and certification curriculum, and handed over with a structured content archive.
